"I don't want to be right. I just want to be free." Listen to my first single from the Maroon Collective.

I talk a lot about dreaming and why accessing and working with our dreamscapes matters more now than ever. Our dreams are places we can strategize in, from, and through to create the societies we say we want to live in.

It’s what I call “strategic dreaming”.

One way I dream is through music and poetry. I let the soundscapes overtake me as a way to make space for the words to emerge that want to come up and out onto the page.

In this vein, I have been working on a new music project with my friend, homie, and collaborator Forest Brooks that brings poetry and house together to help us dream and imagine what freedom can be.

We are ChiMaroonage (name change from The Maroon Collective that is shown). ChiMaroonage, composed of the Chicago based duo Nicole Danielle and Forest Brooks, blends poetry with music to create soundscapes that take us into the dreamscapes for our collective liberation. Maroons escaped from enslavement and created new settlements in the wild, working with the land for their freedom. Working in this tradition, ChiMarronage creates music that taps into the wilderness of our imaginations and asks us all to dare to be free.

We are part of the Rise Up Music Project where we will release a new song every month on the 7th for a year. So subscribe there to hear from other artists (a new artist each day) and to hear future tracks from us!

Let me know what comes up for you! Leave a comment and share with others who would be interested! And give yourself permission to go into and play in your dreamscapes.
