Fear & Faith
Fear and faith are bedfellows, one bringing out the other. When fear emerges, as it is right now, WHOSE faith are you following? Yours, or your oppressors?
Fear and faith go hand in hand.
Cause when fear arises, faith is sure to follow.
But the question is WHOSE faith are you following?
Yours?…Or your oppressors?
When fear is invoked as a tool of the state,
it becomes a tool of power,
that remains powerful over us all.
Cause when fear is invoked, it is easy to turn to the faith of your oppressor.
The one who has told you…trained you…to give your authority up to a higher being…
…to a higher power.
To the Great -White - Patriarch in the SKY who is embodied in the embodiment of those we have elected on the ground,
who have trained us to be fearful so that when fear arises we give our faith up to them.
So WHOSE faith is leading you to YOUR promised land?
Is it really promised to you?
Or must you imagine it?
Create it?
Embody it?
Take…it…back……..
Stolen land
Stolen people
Stolen time and rest.
A thief will not give what they have taken,
so it must be taken back.
Take back your time by taking back your rest.
Because the body never forgets.
And REORIENT YOUR DREAMS TO THOSE OF TIMES BEFORE Faith was tied to giving it up to something/one else.
When fear comes a knockin, faith will come followin.
So, WHOSE faith are you following?
Yours or your oppressors?
NEW Podcast Episodes Out! The Art of Gathering & DEI Hires
Season 3 of my podcast “Abolitionist Dreamscapes” is out! This season I am focused on stories from the margins as a way to have us dream of new futures we can enact in the present.
Because we need to learn to be human again, which means we need to learn how to be creative again.
We need more gatherings of people. People coming together to create.
To Be.
Learn(ing) how to be together again in our humanities.
This is why we NEED to gather again, in different ways and with different types of people. And dream of the worlds we truly want to live in.
Not just survive (barely) through.
This is what I talked about with Dr. Moya Bailey on Episode 21 - what it means to gather people together in the present moment for liberation.
For us to gather together we need to accept the fact that being human means embracing difference.
Differences - diversity - are fundamentally human.
It literally keeps us alive.
Yet, it is our differences that we have been taught to fear the most. Making us suspicious of “diversity” and its counterparts of “equity and inclusion”, therefore suspicious of our own humanity.
I talk more about this with my friend and former colleague Dr. Ateria Coleman - Chief Equity Officer for the State of Illinois - on Episode 22 called “DEI Hires”.
